  • CREW - Clearwater Revival East Wanneroo

CREW has been challenging state government plans for East Wanneroo since 2004. First the Labor government in relation to urban development over high risk acid sulphate soils, and now the Liberals in relation to their industry plans. We are for progressive plans that are good for the economy, the environment and the social fabric of east and south Wanneroo, the proposed industrial plans on top of Perth's drinking water will do the opposite.

  • Our Campaign

We want to bring public attention to government plans to place industry on what is now crown land within the most important area of the Gnangara Mound, that is, its Priority One Public Drinking Resource Area. We want the public to make their own assessment of this plan and support our campaign to stop it, if they agree that this is an outrageous plan.

  • How important is our campaign?

Many people know how important the Gnangara Mound and its water is to Perth.

Google Gnangara Mound and water and you will find a myriad of documents from the department of water plus so many scientists stating how important this body of water is for Perth and the purity of its public drinking water.

Key Issues

When you create a vast over-supply of a particular type of employment, which this so called industrial employment plan does, it will come at the expense of the creation of other types of jobs, and so will be bad for local employment. Read More

Bellevue Industrial Fire, Perth's toxic nightmare

Youtube Video

Do we want this happening on top of Perth’s water supply? Eleven years on, the site itself is still listed as a contaminated site. The zoning of this industrial park was, and still is, general industry.

The government first proposed a heavier type of industry than "general industry" on top of Perth's water supply. After a huge public outcry they now claim only light and general industry will be allowed on this site (we have reason to believe otherwise - see WHAT TYPE OF INDUSTRY PART 2 under Key Issues), even so, it will be the same type of industry that caused the Bellevue fire.

They tell us to trust their investigation into whether or not industry can be safley placed within what is now the "Priority One Public Resource" area of the Gnangara Mound. One earns the trust of people through one's actions. The public shouldn't have to spend valuable time and energy researching government documents and scrutinising spin just to find out what is really going on.

CREW is pro economic development but not at the detriment of the environment or social fabric of the City of Wanneroo. There will always be compromise but economic, social and environmental considerations must be balanced in regards to developmental plans if there is to be a healthy outcome for the community. For government plans to be legitimate in the eyes of Wanneroo residents their intentions and plans must be transparent as well as the planning process.

Environmental Quote

"Let every individual and institution now think and act as a responsible trustee of Earth, seeking choices in ecology, economics and ethics that will provide a sustainable future, eliminate pollution, poverty and violence, awaken the wonder of life and foster peaceful progress in the human adventure."

— John McConnell, founder of International Earth Day

Social Quote

... the 20th century has been characterized by three developments of great political importance: The growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy.

Australian social scientist, quoted by Noam Chomsky in World Orders Old and New

This is how change happens

We need your support and input to make changes in our community. Our vision is to create a place where everyday people can be heard and have the power to make choices. We are not only the custodians of our homes, but also our communities.
