Four new major roads are planned in the East Wanneroo Structure Plan (Page 13 fig 12 & page 34 fig 13). One road in particular is an unfair imposition on current residents and that is the Rousset Road extension which in the East Wanneroo Structure Plan boarders special rural blocks in Pennygum Estate.
This proposed road would also destroy a registered Aboriginal significant corroboree and healing site (Mariginiup # 22160) right where the Rousset Road extension is being planned. How can we as a community in 2009 have such disregard for Aboriginal heritage. Residents of Pennygum Estate purchased their one hectacre properties around the year 2000. They were told to plant natural corridors for fauna and the majority of them had to build expensive sand pads and eco -sewage systems because of the closeness of the water table. When they brought into the newly approved special rural subdivision they naturally believed that this was the type of eco planning that was going to be the norm for the area. Most properties have recently been established at considerable expense for the purpose of their desired lifestyle.
![]() Now a four lane major road carrying industrial traffic is going to pass within fifteen meteres of some of their lounge rooms and cutting into areas of bush that has been deemed high value conservation wetlands (see page 16 fig 8 and page 34 fig 12).
The path of this road negatively impact on their lifestyle and value of their properties plus destroy other areas of native vegetation assessed by the Department of Planning and Departments of Environment and Conservation as “to be in good or better condition and worthy of retention”.
We propose that the path of the road move to beyond the eastern side of the wetlands conservation area, as the path of the road would not destroy the Aboriginal site and would create a natural bush buffer between these newly established special rural lots and the road. |
